The Reward of Darkness

The Reward of Darkness

As consciousness is a disease
we, whose cancer is malignant with awareness,
suffer more from our eyes
being held open.
Brain seizures
The burden of knowledge
We curse our condition
Yet know no other way of existence.
but are able to understand
the privilege of being alive.

Catharsis

Never seen sunshine like I have this morning
The clouds that stretch before me:
Mountainous
Majestic
Ethereal.
Cathartically, I desire to be among them.

Hopeful Cynicism

Hopeful Cynicism

I have seen the faintest of lights escape from the darkest of nights
and hope kilter on the edge of abyss
surrendering it's breath to the vast ocean's depth
but who's fall was broken by coincidence.

I have seen the greatest of men struggle to breathe from defaming injury
and masterpieces being left out in the rain.
The centuries of composition to sculpt such perfection
only to suffer condemnation in the hands of the vain.

I've seen the vanity of the young make surplus value of unconditional love
while the hearts of saints remain abandoned.
Even when good intentions fail, bringing an end to each fairy tale
skepticism can't touch even the most genuine romantics.

I have fallen into infinite caves of despair and returned to again taste fresh air
after my heart was torn to the four corners of the Earth.
Though I may never recover, there is still beauty left to be discovered
as you are the reward for what this darkness is worth.

Without this darkness we are unable to see
the light of all beauty there is to be seen
only at this depth are we able to find
all the beautiful things and the places they hide.
